Expert control of DO in the aerobic reactor of an activated sludge process
2001
Abstract An expert control structure is proposed for the control of dissolved oxygen (DO) in a Nitrification Denitrification Biological Excess Phosphorus Removal (NDBEPR) plant to account for the several processes that are influenced by the DO concentration in the aerator. In the scheme a supervisory fuzzy controller determines the set point of an inner DO control loop where an Adaptive Robust Generic Model Control (ARGMC) controller is used. The fuzzy supervisory control has a hierarchical structure. Off-line measurements of biological parameters of influent and effluent streams can be used to periodically update the set points of the fuzzy controllers. The complete control scheme has been…
The Problem of Monotonicity and the Skeleton
2022
The premise p of a reasoning is usually a complex statement reflecting the information of departure and consisting in the conjunction of other statements, p = p1 · (p2 · (…(pn). Such p can be written without parenthesis provided conjunction is associative, and then with the possibility of placing the sub-indexes in any ordering if it is commutative; on the contrary neither parenthesis, nor ordering can be avoided.
A 3-D marker-free system for the analysis of movement disabilities--an application to the legs.
2001
The aim of this paper is to describe an approach allowing the analysis of human motion in three-dimensional (3-D) space. The system that we developed is composed of three charge-coupled-device cameras that capture synchronized image sequences of a human body in motion without the use of markers. Characteristic points belonging to the boundaries of the body in motion are first extracted from the initial images. Two-dimensional superquadrics are then adjusted on these points by a fuzzy clustering process. After that, the position of a 3-D model based on a set of articulated superquadrics, each of them describing a part of the human body, is reconstructed. An optical flow process allows the pr…
Low cost-sensors as a real alternative to on-line nitrogen analysers in continuous systems.
2009
This paper is focused on the evaluation of the applicability of low-cost sensors (pH and ORP) versus nutrient analysers for controlling biological nitrogen removal in WWTPs. A nutrient removal pilot plant located in Carraixet WWTP (Valencia, Spain) that is equipped with a significant number of nutrient analysers and low-cost sensors was used. The relations between reliable, cheap on-line sensors such as pH and ORP (located in anaerobic, anoxic and aerobic zones) and the nitrification/denitrification processes are provided. The nitrification process can be evaluated by measuring the pH difference between the first and last aerobic zones. The denitrification process can be evaluated by measur…
Fuzzy temporal random sets with an application to cell biology
2007
Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence Microscopy (TIRFM) greatly facilitates to imaging the first steps of endocytosis, a process whereby cells traffic cargo from the cell surface to endosomes. Using TIRFM, fluorescent-tagged endocytic proteins are observed as overlapped areas forming random clumps of different sizes, shapes and durations. A common procedure to segment these objects consists of thresholding the original gray-level images to produce binary sequences in which a pixel is covered or not by a given fluorescent-tagged protein. This binary logic is not appropriate because it leaves a free tuning parameter to be set by the user which can influence on the conclusions of the statist…
Cyclic Dynamic Evaluation of Logistics Services Stakeholders Based on System with OFN Model
2021
The challenge for enterprises and supply chains is to deliver successful logistics services in compliance with their aims. Logistics services are affected by many stakeholders. Recognizing their impact on the undertaken services is important for the planning and execution of a sufficiently rigorous stakeholder management process. The aim of the paper is to present a new approach to the analysis of stakeholders - cyclic dynamic evaluation, which could be used in service management, such as in logistics services. We present a novel fuzzy inference system based on the mathematical apparatus of Ordered Fuzzy Numbers (OFNs). The evaluation of stakeholders consists in assessing key factors as - f…
Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller Design Using Takagi-Sugeno Modelled Nonlinear Systems
2013
Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/734094 Open access Adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems is proposed in this paper. The unknown system dynamics and upper bounds of the minimum approximation errors are adaptively updated with stabilizing adaptive laws. The closed-loop system driven by the proposed controllers is shown to be stable with all the adaptation parameters being bounded. The performance and stability of the proposed control system are achieved analytically using the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulations show that the …
Decision making in energy planning: The electre multicriteria analysis approach compared to a fuzzy-sets methodology
1998
Every planning activity generally requires to make some choices. After a preliminary analysis of the sector under examination, a forecast of trends of input-output items, the planner must define an action plan voted to arrange all the strategies and specific interventions able to fit demand and supply during the planned time. The redaction of an action plan implies a strong effort in order to synthesize either suggestions coming from the analysis phases either all the constraints linked to technical choices. In the same time, a large number of "external" variables plays a role in orienting decision making. Some of these can be handled by numerical models (economic cost-benefit analyses, mar…
Non-fragile fuzzy control design for nonlinear time-delay systems
2013
In this paper, a non-fragile fuzzy control design is proposed for a class of nonlinear systems with mixed discrete and distributed time delays. The Takagi and Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy set approach is applied to the modelling of the nonlinear dynamics, and a T-S fuzzy model is constructed, which can represent the nonlinear system. Then, based on the fuzzy linear model, a fuzzy linear controller is developed to stabilize the nonlinear system. The control law is obtained to ensure stochastically exponentially stability in the mean square. The sufficient conditions for the existence of such a control are proposed in terms of certain linear matrix inequalities.
